Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2026

This policy explains what data PaperWriter collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. PaperWriter is built by JigSpec. We aim to be plain and accurate rather than exhaustive - if anything here is unclear, contact us and we’ll explain.

Data we collect

We collect only what we need to provide the service:

  • Account data. Your email address. We use Supabase to manage email-and-password authentication. PaperWriter does not store your password itself.
  • Your content. The documents you write, the edits and collaboration activity you and your collaborators create, and any files you upload. We store this so we can show your work back to you, sync it across your devices, and enable real-time collaboration.
  • AI input and provenance. When you use AI features, the text you send to the AI and the provenance receipts we generate (what was suggested, where it landed, and any source references attached to that operation).
  • Basic usage and billing data. Information needed to operate accounts, prevent abuse, and process payments, credit balances, refunds, and autonomous provider costs.

AI and your text

The free Editor does not send a manuscript to an AI provider merely because you create, edit, save, or share it. AI processing begins only when an authorized author deliberately invokes an AI feature or starts an Autonomous Writer project.

  • Editor. Creating and editing documents uses the human-controlled writing service, not a free community-model proofreading path.
  • Agent Workspace and Autonomous Writer. These features process the context required for the operation you request. Autonomous Writer sends the agreed brief and supported sources to Sol through OpenRouter with request-level zero-data-retention routing and data collection denied. OpenRouter's Responses API is stateless, so PaperWriter stores the full agent transcript only in the private project database and records usage plus concise progress. The separate Agent Workspace uses the same disclosed provider controls. ZDR governs model inference. Autonomous outbound search is disabled in this MVP, so Sol works only from the project's source shelf and reports evidence gaps instead of sending model-generated queries to a separate search provider.

How we use your data

We use the data above to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the editor and AI features.
  • Authenticate you, sync your documents, and enable collaboration and sharing.
  • Generate provenance receipts for AI drafts and revisions.
  • Process payments and operate subscriptions and autonomous projects.
  • Keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and meet legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal data.

Sharing and service providers

We share data only with the providers we rely on to run PaperWriter - for example Supabase for authentication and data storage, our payment processor for billing, and the AI providers described above. These providers process data on our behalf under their own terms. We may also disclose data when required by law.

When you invite collaborators to a document, the content of that document and your contributions to it are visible to those collaborators.

Data retention

We keep your account and content for as long as your account is active so we can provide the service. You can delete documents, and you can ask us to delete your account and associated content. Some limited records (such as billing records) may be retained where the law requires it. Provider-specific retention terms for any live AI operation are disclosed where that operation is invoked.

Your choices

You can choose whether to use AI features at all. You can edit or delete your documents, and you can request access to or deletion of your personal data by contacting us. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights over your personal data.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make meaningful changes, we’ll update the “Last updated” date above and, where appropriate, let you know.
